About Wolf Blass
A colourful and larger than life character and wine industry legend.
Wolf Blass has amassed a treasure trove of wine and horse racing awards, accolades and paraphernalia over the past seven decades. Rather than let it gather dust in a vault or sit under glass in a dull museum, Wolf decided to put it all on display in a welcoming, entertaining and fun environment.
Wolfie's Verandah
A great place to relax and enjoy a glass of red (or two).
Overlooking a spacious wine garden and framed by majestic gum trees and the Hahndorf Creek, Wolfie’s Verandah provides a calm oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the main street of Hahndorf and is the perfect place to while away an afternoon or evening.
The Building
A labour of love.
The tasteful and careful renovation of the heritage listed, 1912 State Bank building and historic school house, has been a labour of love for Wolf and his wife Shirley. Combining old-world charm with a relaxed, contemporary wine bar, Shirley designed and decorated the Gallery and Museum to create innovative spaces for entertainment, education and display.
The Wolf Blass Foundation Inc.
Supporting the Australian wine industry.
Initially established by Wolf Blass with a $1million dollar donation, the foundation supports the Australian wine industry through recognising excellence and facilitating study in viticulture, winemaking, wine marketing, promotion and wine education.
The Cooperage
A building inside a building.
Nestled inside the original bank building is yet another building. The tiny, original stone school house was thoughtfully preserved and converted to a cooperage where visitors can gain an insight into the ancient craft of barrel making.
